Breaking down Human Emotions



Emotions make us alive and more human. Everything we gather through our five common senses, trigger our emotions. These emotions are not always in our control and can take a toll on us sometimes. But no matter the consequences, emotions are beautiful. We feel loved, cared for, valued, and what not through these emotions. But how many types of emotions do we actually feel? The answer is approximately 50! 

50 sound like a huge number of emotions but it’s true. Every emotion that we summon up as happy or sad has various distinctions and categories. Every single emotion is different and affects us in different ways. Initially, emotions are categorized into 5 major categories that are:

  1. Anger

  2. Fear

  3. Sadness

  4. Disgust

  5. Enjoyment

These emotions are further broken down into many categories to define the complexities of human emotions.

  1. Anger

Anger is not a negative emotion as most people think. Anger is natural and warns you about some toxic situations. Sometimes, anger can make you feel threatened or helpless.

Anger has various types of emotions defined as

  • annoyed

  • bitter

  • peeved

  • contrary

  • frustrated

  • infuriated

  • mad

  • irritated

  • cheated

  • insulted

  • vengeful


  1. Fear

Depending on the situation, fear can be mild or severe. Fear can cause extreme stress problems and anxiety issues and have to be dealt with care and patience.

Fear is categorized into:

  • panicked

  • anxious

  • stressed

  • doubtful

  • terrified

  • desperate

  • horrified

  • confused


  1. Sadness

Sadness is challenging but eventually makes us strong and provides reasons to self-worth. Though no one wants to feel sad but experiencing different types of emotions time to time is important to learn and grow.

You feel disgusted by unwanted and unpleasant situations but are also normal like every other emotion.

Enjoyment is a beautiful emotion that everyone wants to feel forever. It gives us feelings of joy and happiness and makes every hard feeling worth it in the end.
